Why Star Quality?

Our roots go back to 1979 with a company called Sandman. In those early days, we weren't pouring concrete but we were the ones delivering the raw ingredients (sand and rock) to local batch plants. We learned the business from the ground up, understanding exactly what goes into a quality mix before we ever spun a drum.
In the early 1980s, we saw an opportunity to do it better. We acquired a small ready-mix operation that we were servicing and Star Concrete was born. Since then, we have grown from a small "scoop and weigh" operation into one of the most technologically advanced independent suppliers in Northern California. Today, operating out of our centralized facility on S. 7th Street in San Jose, we continue to carry the "Sandman" work ethic: We deliver what you need, when you need it, with no excuses.

We believe that building for the future shouldn't cost the Earth. Star Concrete is widely recognized as the greenest concrete supplier in the Bay Area, and we back that claim up with heavy investments in technology that our competitors simply don't have.
We are the only ready-mix supplier in the state to operate a fleet of mixers powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). While other trucks are idling diesel fumes into your neighborhood or job site, our "Greencrete" trucks run clean and quiet. This massive reduction in our carbon footprint allows our clients to meet strict environmental standards and LEED certification goals that other suppliers can’t touch.
At Star Concrete, we’re transforming one of the world’s most polluting industries by powering our operations with renewable solar energy and recycling concrete that would otherwise end up in landfills. Through our Greencrete initiative, we produce high-quality ready-mix concrete using mostly recycled materials—reducing emissions, conserving natural resources, and supporting sustainable building practices.
Continued Technological Leadership - 2020
Our plant was one of the first in the US to install Twin-Shaft High-Shear Mixers (technology imported from Italy). Unlike standard drum mixers that just "tumble" the materials, our mixers aggressively shear the cement and water together. This results in a creamier, stronger, and more uniform concrete that finishers love. It earned us recognition in Concrete Products magazine for manufacturing excellence.
First Fleet of Natural Gas Mixers - 2010
We were headlined in Government Fleet magazine for being the "First Fleet to Add Kenworth CNG Mixers," proving that heavy-duty construction vehicles can transition away from diesel without sacrificing power or reliability.
Solar and Recycling Innovations - 2008
We installed a 406-kilowatt solar-panel system, the second-largest in San Jose at that time. This alternative energy is used to power our concrete recycling plant. The details were featured in the July 10, 2008 Silicon Valley Business Journal.
Industry First, Ultra-Fast Loading Breakthrough - 2004
As outlined in Concrete Products magazine, we are an industry pioneer in throughput batching. By upgrading our space-constrained facility, we pioneered an ultra-fast, eco-friendly mixing method that allows us to deliver more concrete using a smaller fleet.
